Milltek Sport announces exhaust systems for latest Polo GTI

2019 Volkswagen Polo with Milltek Sport exhaust system

Milltek Sport has announced a fully EC-approved exhaust system for the latest Polo GTI. Starting at £561.42 plus VAT, the system fits from the gasoline particulate filter (GPF) back, which allows drivers to stay within the confines of warranty as well as legislation.

‘Subtle enhancement in tone’
Milltek Sport claims the new system looks set ‘to equip Volkswagen’s latest hot hatch with higher levels of both sonic and dynamic ability’, although also states that enthusiasts looking for a ‘subtle enhancement’ in tone will be best served by the fitment. It would appear (initially anyway) that the exhaust is in keeping with the nature of the car…

All Milltek Sport exhaust systems are designed and hand-finished from aerospace-quality, non-magnetic stainless steel in the company’s Derbyshire factory, using both robotic and more traditional artisanal techniques to create parts that look and sound like factory option components. Milltek’s extensive R&D on both road and dyno ensures that its new systems deliver a crisp, attractive note, without ever droning or resonating on long motorway drives.

Sports cat and de-cat options
Once Milltek Sport’s road test programme is complete, sports catalyst and de-cat options will also be available. These will replace the OEM catalysts and GPF, and promise ‘dramatic improvements’ in flow rate as well as a useful aural enhancement says Milltek. More power is also stated to be unleashed!

Five trim options will be available for owners to match, contrast or accentuate their tailpipes to suit the look of their Polo GTI. Based on the popular and stylish ‘GT90’ trim, the pipes come in a choice of brushed titanium, burnt titanium, carbon, cerakote black or polished. Plenty of Polo pipe personalisation options then!

2001-2009 Polo adjustable front wishbone bushes now available from Powerflex

Powerflex PFF85-201G Black Series front wishbone front bush with camber adjustment

Long-standing suspension bush tuning company Powerflex has announced details of a pair of geometry adjusting products for the Volkswagen Group PQ24 platform, which includes the fourth-generation ‘9N’ and ‘9N3’ Polo models, built from autumn 2001 to spring 2009.

The front wishbone front bush with camber adjustment (PFF85-201G) costs from £45.54 each, while the front wishbone rear bush with caster offset (PFF85-602G) is priced from £65.94 each. Manufactured by the company which produces the number one selling performance bushes in Europe, prices include VAT and both are available now to order online at www.powerflex.co.uk.

In-built camber adjustment
The front wishbone front bush has in-built camber adjustment, and the 30mm diameter bushing permits +/- 0.5 degrees of camber adjustment thanks to its offset bore, which can be easily rotated using the bespoke tooling (supplied). This gives a greater degree of control over the car’s geometry settings, while the bush’s knurled end prevents unwanted sleeve rotation and enables camber settings to be ‘fixed’ once the optimal position has been achieved.

In-built caster adjustment
Powerflex’s front wishbone rear bush with in-built caster adjustment is even more impressive. Engineering a bushing able to offer +1 degree of caster proved challenging for the Powerflex research and development team, but the resulting product comprises a low friction polyurethane centre bush, housed within a specially-created, hard-anodised aluminium outer shell.

This is proven to promote the optimum relationship between bushing and aluminium shell, with the low friction rotating bush serving to reduce the forces acting on the arm itself. The lower arm deflection has been decreased by reducing the compliant material within the aluminium shell, effectively allowing for improved in-corner camber, without compromising straight line traction.

Lifetime warranty
Powerflex’s signature polyurethane is the material from which the latest bushes are made. As it has a proven ability to withstand the immense forces, temperatures and conditions which are part and parcel of a hard-working automotive chassis, the PQ24 bushes benefit from Powerflex’s lifetime warranty. As well as the standard kits, Powerflex also offers the PQ24 chassis products in its Black Series range, which are tailored for use with track day and competition cars, and boast a stiffer construction.

Also compatible with the 1999 to 2005 Audi A2 (1999-2005), the 2002 to 2009 SEAT Cordoba ‘6L’ and 2002 to 2008 SEAT Ibiza ‘6L’, 2000 to 2007 Skoda Fabia (2002-2008), as well as the 2205 to 2011 Volkswagen Fox, visit the Powerflex website for more information.

Forge Motorsport releases new dump valve kit for Polo 1.0 TSI

Forge Motorsport 2014-2017 Volkswagen Polo 1.0 TSI dump valve kit

Well-respected Volkswagen and Audi tuner Forge Motorsport has released an all-new dump valve kit for 2014 to 2017 ‘6R’ and ‘6C’ 1.0-litre TSI-engined Polos, as well as their closely-related Audi A1, SEAT Ibiza and Skoda Fabia derivatives. Priced from £207.77 including VAT, the FMDV9 kit for the PR-TJ4 engine is a complete ‘fit and forget’ part.

Specifically designed for this application, the twin-piston design has a number of advantages, including an ability to increase throttle response during gear changes thanks to a reduction in turbo lag. It also helps the turbocharger maintain its rotational speed when under acceleration and, Forge reports that it gives a loud (and addictive) sound when lifting off the throttle!

Silicone from turbo to manifold
The kit also comes with a new, longer-than-OEM-lasting hose, which features an inner layer of Flurosilicone, which makes it more resistant to oil exposure, temperature and pressure, and also suitable for modern long-life coolants, Organic Acid Technology coolants or air-containing oil mist. Available in a choice of colours, the kit completely replaces the OEM plastic pipe from the turbo to manifold with silicone.

Impressibly reliable reputation
All the required couplers and fixings are included, too. CNC-machined alloy couplers and jubilee clips ensure that the kit is built to OEM standards, and will perform faultlessly for countless miles. Future-proofing the car’s induction system, Forge even throws in a limited lifetime warranty. Not that you’ll need it, as Forge’s products enjoy an impressively reliable reputation, and won’t set off engine warning lights or trigger fault codes.

Forge Motorsport’s Polo 1.0 TSI dump valve ships with everything required for a straightforward installation, including detailed fitting instructions. Call call 01452 380999, head to www.forgemotorsport.co.uk or email info@forgemotorsport.co.uk for more details.

Remus stainless steel exhaust upgrade for 2014- Polo GTI 1.8 TSI

Volkswagen Polo GTI 1.8 TSI Remus performance exhaust system upgrade

Hot on the tyre tracks of Cobra Sport’s exhaust upgrade for the 2014- (current) Polo GTI 1.8 TSi comes a similar system from Remus. Three 60mm stainless steel sports exhaust kits are available as the core product, and all are 5mm larger than the Polo GTI’s standard system. One offering has a resonator, one does without, while the third boasts fully-integrated electronic valves, complete with remote control to operate the valve control unit.

Quiet or aggressive-sounding
The latter system allows for the exhaust volume to be raised or lowered just by the simple push of a button, meaning that enthusiastic owners can have a quiet car day-to-day, or a more aggressive-sounding one when the need and time arises. Very clever, and something which has been solely realised by Remus, as the standard car does without such a trick system.

A pair of chromed and angled 90mm tailpipes mark the start of the under-bumper options. Five more 84mm offerings bolster the range, and available in chrome, ‘Street Race’, ‘Carbon Race’, ‘Street Race Black Chrome’, and titanium finishes, there really should be something for everyone. As a bonus, all of the available options should nestle under the hot Polo’s rear bumper easily.

High standard of quality
Remus tests all its systems on its own development cars and can therefore offer a very high standard of quality as well as increases in performance throughout the rev range. The company also states that while the increased volume is more aggressive than the car’s OEM system, it never becomes intrusive. Prices start at £91.20 including VAT for the front ‘race tube’ which replaces the front silencer, and rise to £1,008.00 including VAT for one system with the fully integrated electronic valves.

Visit Remus’ website at remusuk.com for more information on, and the fitment details and prices for, the Polo GTI 1.8 TSI cat-back sports exhaust system.

Cobra Sport announces performance exhaust system for 2014- Polo GTI 1.8 TSI

Polo GTI 1.8 TSI Cobra Sport performance exhaust system upgrade

Cobra Sport has announced a series of new performance exhaust upgrades for the current Polo GTI 1.8 TSI, which was first introduced in 2014. Following a similar series of upgrades for the previous 1.4-litre supercharged and turbocharged TSI engine which powered the 2010-2014 Polo GTI, the latest system ‘greatly improve the exhaust pitch and tone and add the sporty edge which was missing from the factory system,’ according to Cobra Sport.

Weight saving of 41 per cent
The resonated 2.5-inch cat-back system weighs only 9.52kg compared to the original’s 16.20kg, an impressive saving of 41 per cent. Cobra Sport claims that the de-cat and sports cat front pipes have been enlarged to 3-inch bore and offer a weight saving of 0.60kg. The new offerings for the Polo GTI have the usual Cobra Sport best quality refinements, including Grade 304 stainless steel used throughout the system.

The Cobra Sport upgrades fit from the catalytic converter rearwards and replace the middle and rear sections. Owners looking for maximum performance and sound improvements, the company also offers both a 3-inch (76.2mm) high flow sports catalyst and de-cat front section to complete the turbo-back system.

Twin 3-inch and 3.25-inch tailpipes
A choice of twin 3-inch and 3.25-inch tailpipes in a highly polished T304 stainless steel finish is available, while a less obtrusive oval slash cut version can also be optioned. Cobra Sport states that the resonated cat back system offers a subtle 10db aural upgrade over the original (benchmarked in a 4000rpm static test) and that it is designed to ‘provide a purposeful but unobtrusive pitch perfect sound quality, which in no way interferes with day-to‐day drivability’.

Matt Thomas, Sales Manager at Cobra Sport says: ‘The new Mk 5 Polo has been a big hit with initial owners and journalists who rate the naturally-aspirated 1.8 litre engine as a big improvement over the previous 1.4 TSI. We are very excited to have developed a full range of exhaust systems to offer an upgrade to suit the wide range of buyer requirements.’

The Polo GTI 1.8 TSI Cobra Sport non-resonated cat-back system starts at £427.20, while resonated cat-back upgrades are priced from £506.40. The most expensive upgrade is the turbo-back exhaust system with sports catalyst and resonater which retails at £1,202.54. For full details of the new systems, visit the Cobra Sport website.
