Volkswagen India has launched a special edition version of its Polo saloon-based model, the Vento, called the Vento Style. Available with the existing car’s 1.6-litre 104bhp petrol and diesel engines, and in Trendline and Comfortline trims, the Vento Style comes with alloy wheels, floor mats, leather seat covers, and exterior chrome trim and door sills. New paint colours include Pepper Grey. The Vento Style is priced at Rs 8.33 lakh for the petrol version and Rs 9.41 lakh for the diesel variant (all prices ex-showroom Delhi). In other news, Volkswagen India is expected to launch a sports version of the current 6R Polo this week. Powered by an existing 104bhp 1.2-litre TSI engine, the new car is expected to be called the Polo GT.

Over at Indian Autos Blog, our friends have reported that Volkswagen India has released two new colour options for its popular Polo and Vento models. Pepper Grey and Shadow Blue were previously available on the Polo and Vento respectively, but now, they can be specified on both models for the 2013 model year. Both variants have recently been refreshed and been updated with more technological equipment such as an RCD 320 music system with Bluetooth and SD card slot, as well as a multifunction steering wheel. The current Polo and Vento have been very popular models in India, with over 62,500 units sold during 2012.

In related news, the Vento is due to be exported to Algeria from March 2013, after being unveiled at the Algiers motor show. Expected to take its name from the Russian and South African versions of the car, the Polo Sedan will be built in Volkswagen’s Indian or Russian factories. Nepal has also just received the Polo TDI, exported from India. Imported by Pooja International, the car will be available in Comfortline and Highline versions, and is powered by the 1.2-litre 74bhp TDI engine. Equipment highlights include keyless entry, double DIN music system, and USB connectivity. Indian Autos Blog reports the Polo TDI Comfortline costs 3.19m Nepalese Rupee, while the TDI Highline is priced at 3.39m Nepalese Rupee.

Volkswagen UK has recently and modestly lifted the prices of its models. The Polo range was included in the increases, and now starts at £10,490 for the 1.2-litre, 59bhp S three-door. The GTI now nudges just over £20,000 for the first time at £20,050 for the five-door variant, while the new eco-performance Polo BlueGT with cylinder deactivation starts at £17,400 for the three-door car with a six-speed manual gearbox. Volkswagen India has launched a fresh assault on the supermini market this week with a new advertising campaign for its popular Polo and Vento (Polo saloon) models. The pair were mildly refreshed a few months ago, and this campaign highlights some of the gadget-led revisions that appear on the small hatchback and its saloon counterpart. These 45-second TV commercials highlights the new Bluetooth connection both 2013 models receive, and is done with Volkswagen’s trademark sense of humour. The new advertising campaign strapline is ‘The Polo. Added features. Added value.’ (The same slogan applies to the Vento).

The latest Vento (Polo saloon) has proved popular in India, and Volkswagen has responded to customer demand and launched a third mid-spec Comfortline model with a 1.6-litre, 104bhp diesel engine. Priced at Rs 8.56 lakh ex-showroom in Maharashta and Rs 8.74 lakh ex-showroom in the rest of India, the Vento Comfortline Diesel features body-coloured door handles and mirrors front fog lights, CD/MP3 radio system, rear centre arm rest, ‘Livon’ fabric upholstery, and height-adjustable driver’s seat. All of this equipment is above the standard specification of the lower Vento Trendline models. ‘Since the introduction of the Vento, we have received requests for a mid-level trimline,’ Neeraj Garg, Member of the Board and Director of Volkswagen India Passenger Cars said.
